The arrival of spring: A safe riding gift for motorcyclists
Natuck, Massachusetts_ Along with climate change, spring has sprung on the calendar. The temperature is rising, and the buds are peeking with the possibility of blooming. Now is the time to get your bike and personal protective equipment ready for the road.
Safe riding and preparation are key to a successful weather ride.
“Unfortunately, in the military and specifically in the brigadier, 25 deaths were due to motorcycle accidents in fiscal year 2022. That’s 29 percent of the deaths in the brigadier,” said Louis Calcagni, security manager for the Natick Soldier Systems Center. , said. “A big reason for this is poor vehicle maintenance. Many injuries, lost work and deaths could be avoided if people just inspected their bikes.”
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to die in a crash than those in passenger vehicles. In the military, the risks are doubled because of the dangers associated with their jobs.
“You’d be surprised how many people on the street have motorcycles and don’t know what they’re looking at when they look at the mechanics of the bike. They just take it in for service and say, “It takes some work. But unlike a car, it’s not something you want to play with. You have to watch it all the time,” Calcagni said
Military-mandated personal protective equipment includes a Snell-approved helmet, eye protection, sturdy shoes, gloves, and clothing made of abrasion-resistant materials. This equipment can provide significant protection in the event of an accident, reduce the severity of injuries and even save lives.
“The Snell Safety Foundation’s helmets are mandated by the military because they undergo the most rigorous tests. DoD has used many OSHA rules to look at personal protective equipment.
